Lewis 'Whitey' Chancey passed away on December 10, 2025, at the age of 87 in Key West, Florida, after a fierce battle with CLL.
Whitey graduated from Key West High School in 1956, at which time he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for four years. After returning home, he entered an electrical apprenticeship and later owned T&W Electric with is partner, the late Martin Thomas. He later joined the Key West Fire Department and attained the title of Captain until he retired.
He loved fishing, boating, BOCCE and his granddaughters.
He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Gloria Gibson Chancey, his beloved daughter Elaine del Valle (Marcus), son Kevin Chancey (Izumi), granddaughters Marcella and Montana del Valle, and Emma and Mia Chancey, brother-in-law William Gibson, Jr., nephews Christopher Gibson (Ashley), Troy Gibson (Lindsey), two great nieces, and numerous extended family and friends.
Rest in peace Papa.
A special thank you to William of Hospice, and all the caring ICU nurses at the Lower Keys Medical Center. A celebration of life will be at a later date. Key West Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
