It is with great sadness that we share that Juan Jose Matril Atarama, 65, of Peru, passed away peacefully on August 26th, 2025, surrounded by his family in his home in Key West, FL.

Jose fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was first diagnosed June 2023 and endured a year of chemotherapy before going into remission. We all hoped the fight was over, but in September 2024 the cancer returned even stronger. Through it all, he fought bravely and did everything he could to stay strong for his family.

When he wasn't doing what he loved while working, painting, he enjoyed playing soccer with friends and family. He loved taking his grandchildren to the park and riding his bike around town and helping his friends in anything they needed. He would wake up and be out the door at 7 AM every Sunday to hand out coffee and breakfast sandwiches at the local shelters doing his part in helping others in the community.

He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.

Father, you are now at peace and reunited with your parents and sister. We will meet again but until then rest easy and know you will forever be loved and will never be forgotten.
