Frank Rudolph
Leggett Sr
October 12, 1936 – February 8, 2025
Frank Rudolph Leggett, Sr., affectionately known as Rudy or Big Rudy, the fourth of five children, was born October 12, 1936, to the late Samuel Donzel Leggett and Alice Grace Edden Leggett, in Key West, Florida.
Growing up, Rudy attended Sunday school at Newman United Methodist Church, where he remained a member throughout his life. He loved his church.
Rudy attended Douglas High School "Fighting Tigers", where he played football and was also a member of the school choir before graduating with the class of 1956. It was during his sophomore year that he began courting his wife-to-be, Joan Yvonne Allen.
On July 28, 1956, Rudy and Joan were joined in holy matrimony, and this union was blessed with four children, Frank Jr., Adriene, Judy, and Donzel.
Rudy worked for Southern Bell, which would later become Bell South, from where he retired after 42 years. He was a fearless Lineman, as he would be in the bucket while working high up on telephone poles, all up and down the keys. After 42 years, his retirement was absolutely deserving.
A member of the Sunset Royals, where he served as president from 1971-1975, and later the Silver Slipper Club, Rudy enjoyed the camaraderie with his social Club brothers. These organizations were instrumental in providing social events and were a very important part of the community.
Rudy was Poppy to his grandchildren and also known as "Chief" to friends. He was a man of very few words. It was simply a look, and one knew exactly what he meant or where he stood. An avid Miami Dolphins and Miami Heat fan, Rudy would sit on the porch and watch the ball games during the week and on weekends, sometimes yelling at them. :)
On January 30, 2025, Rudy suffered cardiac arrest. On February 8, 2025, God said it was time to rest. He was predeceased in death by his four siblings, Donzel Leggett, Gilbert Leggett, Olga Thompson, and Alvin Leggett.
Rudy leaves to live and cherish his memories, his faithful and devoted wife of 67 years, Joan Allen Leggett; four children, Frank Leggett, Jr. (Cynthia), Adriene Casamayor (Raymond), Judy Leggett, and Donzel Leggett, Sr. (Tracy); ten grandchildren, Frank Leggett, III ((Jaymie), Nikia Croslin (Brandon), Emanuel Clark (Nicola), Kori Thomas (Reginald), Joanna Gainer (Davion), Daniel Clark, Donzel Leggett, Jr., Sierra Leggett, Joanell Leggett, and, Gianna Leggett; ten great grandchildren; three close sisters-in-law, Shelia, Lakay, and Donna; a special niece, Alicia Rolle; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
