Edwin Knowles
Jr
April 6, 1927 – May 5, 2025
It was ninety-eight years ago, on April 6, 1927, in Key West, FL. that Edwin Knowles, Sr. & Verlene Major Knowles welcomed their son., Edwin Knowles, Jr into the family. He had humble beginnings which led to a rewarding finish.
Affectionately known as Jack by family and friends, he was raised in a Christian household early on. He attended Douglass High School until duty called for him to take care of his family.
Later he married Marie Russell Knowles and was blessed with five sons, Gerald, Tyrone, Edwin Ill, Kenny, Troy and one daughter, Marla.
Jack enjoyed his family, and the precious time spent with them. Coming up with his siblings he enjoyed the eventful times at the Virginia Street compound laughing, dancing, eating and singing. He enjoyed singing in his church choir and many he encountered singing ''Happy Birthday" on their special day. Jack made many delicious recipes that many enjoyed, especially his famous fudge and chili. Jack was an avid hoarder as he would save everything- he knew where everything was at and would fix everything; from lawnmowers to washing machines.
He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, the Blessed Community Choir and Men in Black where he enjoyed singing diligently. Jack was an outstanding landscaper and groomed many yards and trees in Key West. He later established a business with long time partner Henry Roberts, calling the business, Knowles & Roberts Landscaping. As partners, they also owned and managed a local grocery store, Knowles Grocery. Jack became employed by Key West Housing, Authority as a maintenance worker for eighteen years before retiring to care for his ailing wife.
He would sing to the very end his beloved Ink Spots songs.
Jack answered the Master's call on May 5, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Verlene Knowles; his loving wife Marie Knowles; nine siblings, Leonard, Eugene, Grandville, Charles Knowles, Alberta Pla, Dorothy Kennedy, Eva Mae Thomas, Elvera Knowles and Flora Castillo.
