Donald Nathan
Carey
November 25, 1963 – August 14, 2023
Donald Nathan Carey, affectionately known as "Nathan", was born on November 25, 1963, in Key West, FL to the late Donald George Carey and Adell Francis (Alce) Carey.
Nathan was a Monroe County Public School System student and a proud graduate of Key West High School (Conchs) Class of 1982. While attending Key West High School, he was an avid basketball player and jokester. After graduating high school, he moved to Tallahassee, FL to attend Tallahassee Community College (TCC). As a student at TCC, Nathan and several classmates started an intramural basketball team, where they went on to win the Community College intramural Basketball championship. This extraordinary feat caused TCC to form its first official community college basketball team.
After leaving college, he moved to Jacksonville, FL where he started a family and worked for NCP Solutions Printing Company for many years as the Laser Printer Shift Supervisor. Nathan, a member of the Newman United Methodist Church and a former member of the Coral City Elks Lodge (Key West Chapter), continued to give back to his Key West Community anytime he visited.
Nathan lived a full live doing the activities he loved: fishing in his backyard, cracking jokes with family and friends, giving his two cents on every issue, laughing so hard that it would shake the walls, and giving hugs when you needed one; and that's what made "Nathan" the man who we all cherish and loved.
Nathan departed peacefully on Monday, August 14, 2023 in Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his sister Isabelle Carey Graves.
Nathan's memory will be forever treasured by his wife, Christy (Young) Carey; two devoted daughters, Tamira Carey & Arnel Carey, and Centralia Carey. His siblings Donna (Carey) Aaron of Miramar, FL; Dale Carey (Kimberly) of Atlanta, GA: and sister-in-law Toni Tabor. His nieces and nephews: Shamain Punch (Jamil), Wilyan Jones (Tanya), Jhontae Jones, Monroe Holloway III (Dekariss) and Dontrell Holloway (Megan), Kaisha Carey and Dale K. Carey. His aunt Oreatha Thompson of San Diego, CA; uncles Clarence "Dreamboat" Alce (May) of Key West, FL., Emerson Allen of Key West, FL., Alvin "Colonel" Alce (Dehavalynn) of Key West, FL., Derek Carey of St Petersburg, FL., Dorian Carey of St Petersburg, FL: Hercules Spicer (former father-in-law) of Jacksonville, FL. He also leaves a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, loving cousins, extended family, friends, and classmates who will never forget his mark on their lives.
