Cameron Bruce Murray, 66 years old, passed from this life in the early hours of July 7, 2023. Loving brother, uncle and husband, Cameron will be fondly remembered by members of Key West's theatrical community and the generations of students he taught at Key West High School.

Born on March 26, 1957, in Niagara Falls, New York and raised in Lewiston, New York, Cameron left the northern climes to pursue his bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Miami. He moved to Key West in 1989 where he found his own personal paradise.

He quickly established himself as an actor and director of note, first at the Waterfront Playhouse and Red Barn Theater, and then with the Fringe Theater. He also directed many concerts for the Key West Pops Orchestra and was artistic director of KeysKids from 2000 to 2013. All total, he directed more than 40 shows during his time Key West.

In 2000, Cameron joined the teaching staff at Key West High School and taught classes ranging from AP Literature to Acting and the History of Film. As Cameron used to say, working with students was his most fulfilling role.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Drummond and Victoria, and by their three children, Jennifer, James and Stephanie. He is also survived by his long-term partner, Vincent Zito.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Key West Mortuary, 328 Truman Ave., Key West. A graveside service will be held on that same day at 1 p.m. at the Key West City Cemetery.

Cameron was a very private person but for those who knew him well, there was no one more generous, more supportive or more loving. He will be missed.
